Tawi Owaid to Al Madam Sand Trail

The Tawi Owaid to Al Madam Sand Trail is a 25 km easy-rated community drive across the gentle desert landscape of eastern Sharjah, departing from the historic Tawi Owaid well site and looping across the low-lying Al Madam sand plain. The Tawi Owaid wells — a cluster of traditional freshwater wells used for centuries by camel caravans crossing the Hajar foothills — provide a historically significant meeting point before the drive. The route crosses a series of very low dune lines averaging 3 to 6 metres in height on a wide, consistent track that requires minimal technical input. Tyre pressure is reduced to 26-28 PSI at the briefing stop to improve ride comfort over the sand without entering full deflation territory. The Al Madam plain section is characterised by a flat, hard-pack surface with occasional soft sand patches that respond well to gentle momentum management. The loop returns via a parallel track to the starting point, covering approximately 3 hours of comfortable desert driving. This drive is particularly suited to members new to desert driving, families with children in appropriately equipped 4WD vehicles, and anyone returning to desert driving after a break. The Al Madam area is accessible year-round, with October through March providing the most comfortable daytime temperatures.
