The Jebel Yanas Mountain Dirt Ascent is a 26 km hard-rated single-day drive climbing the western escarpment of Jebel Yanas in Fujairah Emirate, reaching an elevation of approximately 1,050 metres via a series of loose limestone gravel tracks, tight switchbacks, and exposed shelf roads. The route departs from the Fujairah-Masafi highway and begins climbing immediately through a lower canyon section where the track surface alternates between soft shale and embedded rock slabs. Low range is required from the 3 km mark and remains engaged to the summit access point. The switchback section between 600 and 900 metres features the drive’s most technically demanding passages — tight radius turns with outer drop-offs of up to 80 metres requiring precise entry speed control and clean wheel placement. The summit plateau provides panoramic views across Fujairah Emirate, the Gulf of Oman, and the Batinah coast of Oman on clear days. The descent uses a parallel track that reduces switchback severity but introduces a sustained 30 percent grade over loose scree for approximately 2 km. All vehicles must carry spotters for the critical switchback section and the descent scree pitch. Vehicle overheating risk is elevated on the climb — all participants must perform a pre-drive coolant and brake fluid check. Recommended November through February.
