It has become the venue of choice for drivers building skills before progressing to Liwa, Wahiba, or the Saudi desert.
Why Sweihan Works as a Training Ground
The sand is fine and deep enough to demand genuine throttle management and commitment, but the terrain is open enough to offer recovery options without the full complexity of a major dune field. The Circuit
The 4WD Authority Sweihan circuit covers the best of the area’s varied terrain — the deeper western corridors, the inter-dune valleys, and a section of rolling dunes demanding consistent reading of sand colour and texture as indicators of firmness. The route changes each season as the sand moves.
Vehicle Setup
Tyre pressures: 14-16 PSI. Sand boards and a snatch strap are the minimum recovery equipment. Quality compressor required for the return trip to tarmac.
When to Go
Avoid May through September. October through March offers the best conditions. Sweihan is a regular 4WD Authority day drive fixture and serves as the standard preparation venue for members joining the Liwa and Wahiba Sands expeditions each season.
