Wadi Al Arbeieen & Snake Canyon Expedition

The Wadi Al Arbeieen & Snake Canyon Expedition is a 3-day 920 km moderate-rated overland route through two connected wadi systems in the Western Hajar range above Rustaq. Wadi Al Arbeieen is a wider valley than Wadi Bani Awf and provides a more accessible approach to the high Al Hajar plateau for vehicles with longer wheelbases, though loose shale transitions and steep stepped climbs still require consistent low-range engagement. The route passes through the abandoned village of Al Arbeieen, perched on a ridge at approximately 900 metres, offering a clear sightline over the Batinah coast to the Gulf of Oman. The second day connects to the Snake Canyon exit track from the plateau side, navigating the upper bedrock section in descent rather than ascent, significantly reducing the technical demand compared to the upward approach. The descent through Al Hamra and Misfat al Abriyeen allows for a short stop at one of Oman’s best-preserved traditional villages before the overnight camp at Wadi Ghul. Day three returns via the Jebel Shams access road to the Al Hamra plain for a sealed-road transit back to the UAE border. Total distance including transit is 920 km. November through February is the recommended operating window for comfortable temperatures in the canyon sections.
