This Cookie Policy explains what cookies are, which cookies 4WD Authority uses on 4wdauthority.com, and how you can control them. Please read this policy alongside our Privacy Policy, which provides broader information about how we handle your personal data.
1. What Are Cookies?
Cookies are small text files that are stored on your device (computer, smartphone, or tablet) when you visit a website. They allow the website to recognise your device on subsequent visits, remember your preferences, keep you logged in, and collect information about how you use the site. Some cookies are set by the website you are visiting (“first-party cookies”); others are set by third-party services that provide functionality on that website (“third-party cookies”).
Similar technologies such as web beacons, pixels, and local storage may also be used for comparable purposes and are covered by this policy.
2. Categories of Cookies We Use
2.1 Strictly Necessary Cookies
These cookies are essential for the website to function. Without them, you cannot log in, add items to your cart, or use core site features. They do not require your consent because they are necessary to provide a service you have requested.
- WordPress authentication cookies (wordpress_logged_in_*, wp-settings-*): keep you logged in to your 4WD Authority account and remember your display preferences
- WooCommerce session cookies (woocommerce_cart_hash, woocommerce_items_in_cart, wp_woocommerce_session_*): maintain your shopping cart and checkout session as you browse the shop
- CSRF / nonce cookies: protect form submissions against cross-site request forgery attacks
2.2 Analytics Cookies
We use Google Analytics to understand how visitors find and use our website. This helps us improve content, navigation, and performance. Analytics cookies collect data in an anonymised or pseudonymised form; they do not identify you personally.

2.3 Advertising Cookies (Google AdSense / DoubleClick)
We display advertisements on 4WD Authority through Google AdSense. Google and its partners use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to our site and other sites across the internet. This practice is known as interest-based or personalised advertising.

These cookies may collect your IP address, browser type, and information about your browsing behaviour. You can opt out of personalised Google advertising at any time by visiting Google Ads Settings or by using the Digital Advertising Alliance opt-out tool.
2.4 Functional Cookies
These cookies enable enhanced functionality and personalisation on the Site, such as remembering your preferred language, currency, or forum notification settings. They are set by us or by third-party providers whose services we use.
3. How Long Do Cookies Last?
Cookies can be either session cookies, which are deleted when you close your browser, or persistent cookies, which remain on your device until they expire or you delete them. The specific expiry of each cookie is described in Section 2 above.
4. How to Manage and Opt Out of Cookies
You have several options for controlling cookies:
- Browser settings: All major browsers allow you to view, delete, and block cookies through their privacy or security settings. Note that blocking strictly necessary cookies will impair the functionality of the Site.
- Google Analytics opt-out: Install the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on
- Google advertising opt-out: Visit Google Ads Settings to manage personalised advertising preferences
- Industry opt-out tools: You can opt out of interest-based advertising from many networks via the Your Online Choices platform (EU) or the Digital Advertising Alliance (US)
Please note that opting out of advertising cookies does not mean you will stop seeing ads ; it means the ads you see will be less tailored to your interests.
5. Updates to This Policy
We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time as our services change or as laws and regulations evolve. The effective date at the top of this page will reflect the most recent revision. We recommend checking back periodically.
