Been planning a multi-week overland from Dubai through Oman to Muscat, then up through the Wahiba Sands and across into Saudi via the south. Rough route of 3,500km plus. Anyone done anything similar or have waypoints to share? Looking for up to date border crossing info especially.
Did UAE-Oman two years ago but did not go into Saudi. The Wahiba is spectacular — do it from the Adam side if you can. Border crossings into Saudi for non-GCC nationals have specific requirements, check the latest.
Saudi is more open for tourism now. The Rub al Khali section is the serious one — you need genuine desert preparation before attempting it. What convoy size are you planning? Solo Saudi dunes is not smart.
Planning four rigs minimum. Two LC200s, my 76 series, and a friend with an FJ. Will need satellite comms and proper desert camping gear for the remote sections.
